A critical mapping and furniture design workshop by Exutoire and NOGOODS.

About: Scoring Space is a 2-day long workshop led by critical spatial practitioners Exutoire and NOGOODS. It aims at exploring and challenging the architectural and social structures we are met with at an artistic institution.

Using HKS as a starting point, we will discuss relationships between space, power and performance by asking the question, “What and whom are art centers made for?” Through a critical mapping exercise, we will reflect on and discuss one another’s individual perceptions and experiences of HKS. Prompted by this mapping, selected text fragments and project references, we will hi-jack the existing space and imagine alternate forms of institutional space. Together we will propose furniture pieces and accompanying scores or scripts that propose new kinds of interactions, moments of exchange or intimacy between visitors at the art centre. In the end, we will leave behind notes, traces, and eventual proposals for the redesign of furniture. Starting from our own subjectivities, stories, perceptions and observations, this workshop aims to create engagement to actively take part in shaping this environment.

Scoring Space was part of the Hosting Space programme, curated by Maike Statz.
